Average response of KPs to elections


Only 58.56 % turns for 2nd phase

Jammu, Dec 2: Out of 8979 Kashmiri Pandit (KP) migrant voters for eight constituencies of Kashmir, around 59 percent participated in the second phase of Assembly polls, Chief Electoral Officer, Umang Narula briefed media persons here today.
While briefing about second phase of polling, he said in Delhi, highest 62.5 percent migrant voters cast votes. “Out of 48, around 30 cast their votes at four polling stations,” Narula said and added in Jammu, 59.17 percent migrant voters cast votes. He said “Out of 8749, around 5177 migrant voters cast their votes at 21 polling booths.”
He added, while in Udhampur just 28.02 percent voting was witnessed, wherein out of 182 registered voters only 51 including 28 males and 23 females cast their vote.
As per official data, there were 8979 M-Form voters out of 17, 015 registered migrant voters including 3,135 for Kupawara Assembly segments, 3107 voters for Devsar, 2986 for Handwara, 2910 in Kulgam, 1614 in Langate, 1319 in Lolab, 1124 in Home Shalibugh and 820 voters in Noorbad only. There are no Kashmiri Pandit voters registered in Karnah constituency of Bandipora district, it said.
CEO said that out of total 8979 M-Form migrant voters, around 5258 cast their votes at 26 polling booths, set up at Jammu, Udhampur and Delhi for the convenience of the migrants.
“We had established 21 polling booths in Jammu, and four were established at New Delhi, while one at Udhampur” he said.
Pertinently 60.5% migrant voters had participated in the Ist phase of the Assembly elections for four constituencies of Kashmir.
